Prioritize projects ?

Is it possible to prioritize projects? If you are having 30+ projects to oversee it sometimes would be helpful to have an indicator which projects need top attention / next activities. Any ideas how to deal with this? -olivier

Naming convention - not really...
I though maybe renaming the projects to convey their priority could be an option (e.g. "Test Project" changed to "1 - Test Project") but the Projects tree in the Project Explorer does not sort by name. The Focuses, though, are sorted, so maybe there is only a quick fix in the software needed for this to work...

Correct, setting a project priority by renaming does not really help because the projects are not sorted by name in the project explorer. On the other hand, changing the project names (e.g. weekly) might lead to other issues (?). Perhaps a new "priority" property to the projects itself - and sortable - could be a solution. -olivier
Project Priority
I've struggled a bit with this - on one hand there are tools out there that assign a project risk, e.g. Red, Yellow, Green, depending on how the project is performing. The Project Risk Pareto chart in the Organizer task pane attempts to help prioritize focus per project. And I've toyed with showing a status color in Project Explorer. Again based on some math for assigning a priority.
On the other hand, manually assigning a priority may be useful as well.
And if we have both, it would seem counter intuitive. That is, the algorithm thinks the project is at risk, however the manual flag shows green.
Thoughts?

If something tells you that you should look into things and your own idea is that everything is fine and good; that feels like a perfect reality filter :) It is easy to be lulled into thinking everything is ok because you don't see the whole picture...
But i suppose you need to be able to override the automatic if you after considerations still think that every is under control

I strongly agree with Fredrik's view. Automazation is ok as a quick but "unattended" check. But for checking against reality overriding the automatic is a need. It makes you really controlling your projects. So I would give prio to implement a simple prio attribute to the projects list - and make it sortable. -olivier
