What exactly does the Drawer do?

Does it do anything besides simply move email into its respective Outlook project folder? It doesn't appear to add email items to its project category, so I'm wondering if there's anything else behind the scenes that the Drawer option does.

The reason I ask is because I find it much quicker to move email items using traditional Outlook methods, such as highlighting multiple messages/conversations and pressing CTRL-SHIFT-V. But I'd like to know if I'm losing any important Organizer functionality by moving items using traditional Outlook methods instead of using the Drawer command.

Thanks,

Jason

Works like you think

Jason - I added the Drawer for folks that get into the habit of right-clicking.  Also, once you've set up your method, you don't have to think as much.  That is, if you have an archive folder for mail and the move rules are set to move mail into the archive folder, you just process to the drawer.  Which makes it consistent behavior with processing to a task, calendar item, or deleting.

So from that perspective it's a Lean concept, i.e. using the same motion for multiple outcomes.

The way you're doing it works just fine since you've embedded that habit into how you process your e-mail.

Thanks for the update

Thanks for the update Chris. The concern I have after spending more time with this, is:

  • The File Conversation option in the Drawer command doesn't move items that are in my Sent items folder
  • The Ceptara context menu options don't appear when I select multiple items

So what I'm finding is that highlighting and moving multiple messages using traditional Outlook methods is quicker and a more consistent experience than the Ceptara options (especially when using Outlook 2010's Covnersation view).Any chance that these issues are being addressed in future releases of Organizer?

Very Good Chance

Jason -

I've had the "multiple item selection" request a few times aleady, so that's on the list.  Regarding the sent items folder - that's a great suggestion, I can add that as well.

thx
